 Xiaomi has developed the liquid cooling system for Smartphones



We all know that smartphone chipsets are getting more and more powerful year by year, but yet there's still unnecessary heat in these chips. Heat pipes are one of the most commonly used methods of control overheating.

Meanwhile Xiaomi has developed a new technology called "Loop LiquidCool" that doubles the efficiency of these basic heat pipes. We will be able experience Xiaomi phones with this technology in the end of 2022.

You can see how this works in the image above. The liquid in this system becomes vaporized by the heat generated by the phone's chip. The vapor comes along to a tube and being cooled inside the condenser (using the metal frame as a heat sink) to turn back into liquid. That cool liquid goes to the refill chamber and goes back to the part where it evaporates. This action can continue like a cycle.

 Differences between heat pipes and liquid cooling                                 

This function is similar to the functionality of conventional heat pipes that are already in use, but there are some differences. 

    The first difference is this new system stores heated steam and cooled liquid separately. In ordinary heat pipes, the liquid and the vapor travel through the same metal tube, so there's a increased probability of collisions of the heated steam and cold liquid. This new technology reduces the efficiency of conventional heat pipes.

    The second difference is the use of Tesla Valves to handle the gases correctly in this new system. It is a method that invented by Nikola Tesla. It can control the gases to flow easily and accurately in only one direction without any kind of mechanical components. This picture shows the Tesla Valves.

That's how the new Loop LiquidCool technology works. Xiaomi has also announced that this technology not only for chipset, but also can be used for other parts of the phone such as battery, camera.
